Baby Massage
A gentle, loving touch therapy for infants involving slow, rhythmic strokes on the baby’s body to promote comfort, relaxation, and physical and emotional wellbeing.
How does it work?
The massage uses light, rhythmic hand movements on the baby’s limbs, tummy, back, and chest. This calm, structured touch stimulates the baby’s nervous system and skin receptors, helping the body relax and support digestive, circulatory, and sensory systems.
What are the benefits?
Helps soothe, reduce crying, calm stress; may improve sleep quality and relaxation; aids digestion and can relieve gas, colic, and constipation; supports healthy circulation and motor awareness.
What should the client expect?
Sessions are short (often 15 minutes) with gentle, slow strokes in a warm, quiet space. The therapist is trained to tune into the baby’s cues (eye contact, calm posture) and stop if the baby becomes uncomfortable. Caregivers may also participate directly with the baby during the massage. Separate sessions can be arranged to teach elements of the massage technique to caregivers.
Any limitations, restrictions, conditions for participation?
Should not be practiced immediately after feeding.
Avoid if baby is unwell, has skin conditions, or specific health concerns without pediatric approval.
